What is Lifesaver

What is Lifesaver

The circuit breaker, also known as pure differential, is used to protect the domestic electrical system from direct contact with the current or from earthing faults. This important device is installed inside the electrical panel, upstream of the system.

Pure Differential Lifesaver Mounting Guide

In this article, you will find a complete guide on how to correctly install the circuit breaker inside a domestic system. The guide includes a detailed final video guide that further facilitates the installation process. The lifesaver model examined for this guide is the BTicino 25A lifesaver differential.

Installation Steps

  • Check that the electrical panel is suitable for installing the circuit breaker.
  • Turn off the power of the system completely to ensure safety during installation.
  • Install the circuit breaker upstream of the system, following the instructions specified by the manufacturer.
  • Perform a functional test to ensure that the device is installed correctly and functions as expected.

Introduction to the BTicino Differential 25A Lifesaver

The BTicino 25A differential circuit breaker is an essential component for the safety of domestic electrical systems. This device, the protagonist of our guide, is characterized by its ability to intervene in dangerous situations, guaranteeing protection and safety.

Features and Installation

The BTicino 25A differential circuit breaker has a structure that provides an entry for the cable coming from the meter on the high side, also called the upstream part, and an exit, downstream, for the cable that connects to the circuit breakers. This last operation allows you to distribute energy to the various areas of the home in a safe and functional way.

In our video guide, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the device using a simple light bulb. This practical experiment helps to better understand the functioning of the circuit breaker once installed inside the electrical panel, which in this specific case is represented by a single-module box.

Importance of Pure Differential

It is essential to distinguish the pure differential from the more common thermomagnetic and differential circuit breakers. Its function is clearly different and plays a crucial role in protecting people from direct or indirect contact with potentially dangerous electrical parts. For further information on the various types of devices and their specific functions, we recommend reading the article "Pure RCDs, MCBs and RCDs".

Conclusion

  • The BTicino 25A differential circuit breaker is an essential safety device in every electrical system.
  • Installation and operation are detailed in our video guide, which offers a practical example of how the device operates inside the electrical panel.
  • For a better understanding of the different types of devices and their specific functions, we recommend reading our article dedicated to differentials.

Cable Connection Procedure

At this point we begin the cable connection procedure. Obviously, the cables that usually come from the meter are thicker than the ones we use. We then screw the two cables, phase and neutral, coming from the main current source, upstream of the differential.

Connecting the Bulb

Downstream, however, we connect the cables of the light bulb that we will use as a test. Subsequently, we hook the circuit breaker to the din guide located on the back of our box and mount the relative cover.

Commissioning and Testing of the Lifesaver

Now let's power up our system, thus turning on the light bulb connected to it.

  • To check that the circuit breaker is working correctly, you need to press the test button. This simulates an overload or short circuit.
  • If the system is functioning properly, the light bulb will go out, demonstrating the effectiveness of our life-saving model.
